The semester ticket is for students whose universities have concluded a semester ticket contract with the VBB transport companies and the VBB. When you first enroll or re-register at the start of the semester, you will automatically receive all the information you need on how to get your ticket. Different regulations apply depending on the university. You can find a list of all eligible universities in the states of Berlin and Brandenburg here.

Current prices, conditions and areas of validity for the semester tickets of the universities in the states of Berlin and Brandenburg can be obtained from the VBB information center under 030 – 25 41 41 41.

Semester tickets:

• are issued by the universities after conclusion of a semester ticket contract
• if no personal photo is provided, they are only valid with an official photo ID or international student ID
• Special features are regulated by the semester ticket contract

From April 1^st, 2024, students at many universities in the states of Brandenburg and Berlin can receive the Deutschland semester ticket with nationwide validity on local transport. The Deutschland semester ticket is only issued digitally as a wallet or web ticket or as a VBB-fahrCard. It is possible to take a dog with you in the VBB area. The Deutschland semester ticket does not include bicycles.

During ticket checks, the Deutschland semester ticket is only valid in conjunction with an official photo ID.

Please also note the conditions of carriage and tariff regulations for the Deutschlandticket (VBB-Tarif, Teil C "Zeitlich und örtlich begrenzte Sonderregelungen sowie Kooperationen", 1.6; 6.9 contains the “Bedingungen für das Deutschlandsemesterticket”).

In the VBB, students at Berlin universities who permanently live in the VBB tariff area outside of the Berlin tariff area ABC during their studies and can prove this (identity card) can purchase the additional ticket to the Berlin semester ticket in addition to the VBB semester ticket. This additional ticket was previously valid on the usual route between the student's place of residence and the first/last train station/stop in the Berlin tariff area, sub-area C. In a pilot project valid from the 2018/19 winter semester, the area of validity of the additional ticket to the Berlin semester ticket was extended to the entire VBB network so that students have the opportunity to take other trips in the state of Brandenburg.

This means that students at Berlin universities who live in the state of Brandenburg (outside the ABC tariff area) do not receive a relation-related ticket when purchasing an additional ticket to the Berlin semester ticket, but rather a ticket that is valid across the VBB network.

All other conditions such as price, travel regulations, etc. remain unchanged (see VBB-Tarif, Teil C "Zeitlich und örtlich begrenzte Sonderregelungen sowie Kooperationen", 1.5. "Zusatzticket zum Semesterticket Berlin").

The additional ticket to the Berlin semester ticket is only valid in conjunction with the valid Berlin ABC semester ticket. Both documents must be presented during ticket checks.

The additional ticket can only be purchased via the DB Subscription Center.
